There are 18 villages in the Hang Hau district. On the third day of the Lunar New Year, villagers perform unicorn and lion dances at the Hang Hau Tin Hou Temple Square to celebrate the Lunar New Year and to seek blessings from their patron deity, Tin Hou. This is one of the major communal events in the district, where HKUST locates. Hang Hau’s Hakka Unicorn Dance has been ratified as one of the items on Hong Kong’s Representative List and China’s National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The South China Research Center would like to invite you to attend this annual communal event to explore the cultural tradition in our district.
